Open Boys Rugby League

What eventually became a superb night for Rugby League in Queensland last Wednesday night, began as a very, very special evening for our Open Boys League team. Masterfully coached by Mr Jackson and meticulously managed by Mr Hearnden, our boys put on an outstanding display of attacking Rugby League to take out the inaugural GIO Cup Grand Final to the tune of 40 points to 6 over our worthy opponents, St Joseph’s.

Close to 200 supporters who braved the cool conditions at Brothers Rugby League Club watched on as our boys opened up a commanding half-time lead and then continued on with the job to run out comfortable winners. The victory was set up through skilful attacking moves, clever kicking and tremendous speed out wide, as the boys negotiated their way around a well-organised defensive team in St. Joseph’s. The final score line is also testimony to the committed defence shown by the team as they continually repelled the opposition’s attack, conceding just one try in a near-perfect game.

Our team have enjoyed an undefeated season in this Regional competition and now move on to the next stage, when they will travel west to take on Roma College.  We wish them all the very best as they continue to fly the flag for Toowoomba State High School.
